Good Money Advice
When I was a part of a newly-formed marketing team for the cash back app, Shopmium, we consulted a financial advisor who mainly works with Millennial women and asked her, “What’s the worst financial advice you frequently hear?”
She said, “I hate it when advisors tell young people to just give up small things, like a latte from Starbucks or a meal via DoorDash, in order to afford major purchases, like a house or a car or even a luxury vacation. That doesn’t work. You just suck the joy out of your life . . . and you still can’t save enough to afford a down payment.” These ads took that bad advice and reframed it: Instead of giving up your small pleasures for big purchases, use the cash back that you earn from the Shopmium app to afford your daily luxuries and small pleasures! Much more realistic—and fun.
